Fred Lindberg at MALE ID show in London 2013.

untitled male id.

Curated by William Angus-Hughes

Lisa Ivory | Fred Lindberg | Zachari Logan | Adamo Macri | Lee Maelzer | Jonathan McLeod
Melanie Manchot | Minou Norouzi | Robert Siegelman | Matthew Stradling

Private View: Friday 12 April, 6-9pm
Exhibition Continues: until 12 May

"The point of this show is to speak about the concept, the make-up, the visibility, the internal/external substance that is tied to being male. The male presence is prevalent in the world, but its meaning is not open for discussion, other than on the level of divisions as being chauvinists and war mongers. The language simply does not exist. Too much focus has been made about the differences between the sexes, why not point out our sameness, what we have in common, rather than a boy and girl teenage scenario of who’s better.

The dysfunction of the contemporary male seems a universal condemnation, he is bound by his own history.

The work presented, stands apart from who has made it, in the sense that the voice of female, male, heterosexual, homosexual, lesbian or trans gender is not a specific issue. All the work is about the acknowledgement of the peripheries that are a part of masculine identity, for no other reason than that it may be of interest and might toy with some other insights. Freedom is about being allowed to be yourself, as whoever you wish to see yourself as. Being male or female should not be a competition, it is about our similarities, and our different needs. We have a lot of common ground, we must stop buying into the games that society and culture have set for us.

The show hopefully has a certain understood surface, but has depth if you wish to dig deeper. It is not meant to be conclusive but merely a starting point. I for one am fed up with meeting broken people – and for what - other than bourgeoisie media, stereotype garbage which pushes values of how you are meant to be.

This show is about opening up, not closing down conversations – the building of a dialogue, to move forward towards a shared empathy between each other."

- William Angus-Hughes

Fred Lindberg at Konst & Aktivism. Göteborgs Konsthall.

Konst + Aktivim - Get artivated! 10 - 25 mars 2012

Angus-Hughes Gallery & Sheffield Fringe present: Mainstream 2.1

Angus-Hughes Gallery & Sheffield Fringe present: Mainstream 2.1
With films by, Laure Prouvost, Charlie Tweed, Margaret Salmon, Maria Marshall, Harold Offeh, Yaron Lapid, Fred Lindberg, Erica Scourti.

Friday, 9 December, 6pm – 9pm

Angus-Hughes Gallery, 26 Lower Clapton Road, London, E5 0PD

Live operatic intermissions by The Society of Imaginary Friends.

"Mainstream 2.1" presents a series of artists' films brought together by their varying strategies in the use of actuality as a material object.
Much variation can be sited in how artists and filmmakers approach the use of actuality as a creative, political, and philosophical means for art production. Embedded in these works, dialogues and playful critiques can be found of the documentary form, of documentation, performance and spectatorship.

Perhaps in a way similar to the Hitchcockian principle approach to actors as object material "willing to be utilised and wholly integrated", it could be suggested that here actuality, meaning documentary material itself is the material object used to underpin an artistic authority in the pursuit of a captive audience.
This 'authority' exists not only in bodily presence and performance documentations as in Laure Prouvost, Fred Lindberg or Harold Offeh's work, but also in concept as in Erica Scourti's use of unauthorised archive material, a pastiche on 'becoming', or Margaret Salmon's seemingly covert recording of a couple’s domestic argument.
Providing an altogether more sensory experience for the spectator, these artists provide landscapes of discomfort, which draw in, charm, seduce and repel.

Sheffield Fringe is an artist-led initiative exploring the confluence point between art & documentary practice. It was first staged as a nano festival in June this year to coincide with Sheffield Doc/Fest.
Sheffield Fringe was born out of a desire to create a platform dedicated to an expansive understanding of how we make and view documentaries, incorporating a multitude of suggested strategies of reform.

Fred Lindberg, Goldsmiths MFA degree show 2011

Goldsmiths MFA 2011

Fred Lindberg

Fred Lindberg`s art practice is a plethora of personal expressions molded into a versatile chaos of what becomes 'Fred the Artist'. He organizes international art festivals, publishes poetry, makes music, art photography and films. He has a television show called Shit TV... and sometimes he even paints.

When Fred is asked about his multifaceted practice he often replies: I just tell stories, and when I manage to do it well, some people seem to enjoy it."

"Artists Against Cuts"

Some Cuts Are Worse Than Others!

Tomorrow at 10:00 - Sunday at 23:30

"The Long Weekend will be a feast of non stop workshops and presentations, slide shows and films, how-to sessions and skill shares, and a free space for spontaneous creation of events, actions and expressions. Its not important what art is but what it does, and right now it has the potential to turn the crisis of cuts into an opportunity for change..."

Slade Occupation:

Our Statement

THE OCCUPATION OF THE SLADE SCHOOL OF FINE ART
We believe that the current proposed cuts to university funding threaten the existence of arts and humanities education in England and Wales. It is for this reason that we have made the decision to occupy the Slade School of Art building.
We demand that the government provide the same protection for arts and humanities in universities as is provided for the sciences. We vehemently oppose the transformation of the university system into market based model; education should be a public debate, not a private economy.

Therefore we the students of the Slade are offering a space for the assembly of all art colleges in England in order to organise non-violent direct action against what we view as an attack by the government on the arts. This is not a virtual exchange, this is a physical assembly. We are demonstrating the value of physical space for art education through the continuation of our day-to-day activity, as well as by inviting other colleges to participate in open events, lectures and workshops. Our occupation is not designed to be disruptive, nor will it engender any damage to the building. Rather, we want to highlight the value of intellectual and cultural exchange within art courses. This is not a boycott, it is an act of support.

Gesamtkunstwerk 2012
Debut Salon Show

Private View Friday 18th June 2010, 6.30-late
The Hackney Rose, 458 Hackney Rd, E2 9EG
19th - 27th June, Friday-Sunday 12-6pm
Or by appointment 0793 1439942

The first exhibition of the Gesamtkunstwerk 2012 project brings together all the artists involved in this ‘total artwork’ which will manifest itself as an artist’s road trip across the United States in 2012. This international troupe of artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, etc. will be art, make art, and exhibit art and more from the West to the East coast in the summer of 2012.

The practises showcased in the Debut Salon Show come from a range of media, though here they are represented as wall-based work, hung in the style of a Parisian Salon exhibition. The style of hanging is not in accordance with the Salon’s values, but rather an understanding of the aesthetic style of hanging large group exhibitions. This seems particularly appropriate for such a large group show, and as a historic parallel with the idea of the gesamtkunstwerk.

This first exhibit is intended as a launch for the forthcoming project, and an opportunity to view the work of all who are involved—though this group will be evolving and changing in the two year interim. In the two years before it’s manifestation, curated group exhibitions will happen under the umbrella of the gesamtkunstwerk project. This framework provides a starting point for further exhibitions, events, and enquiries into multi-disciplinary practise. The artists involved come from 12 different countries in total, and the majority of them work in the United Kingdom. When the final troupe embark on this monumental road trip, the different cultures will grant a transient yet lasting contribution to the contemporary landscape of the USA. During the road trip of travelling exhibitions, gigs, and performances in various institutions, the opportunities to engage in cross-cultural artistic debate will be vast. The international mix of cultural and artistic production will demonstrate the contrasts and similarities that exist between modes of production in the US, Europe, and beyond. The Debut Salon Show is the only occasion where all participants are seen exhibiting together, until the Gesamtkunstwerk finally happens in 2012.

Fredrik Fred Lindberg
